Two in custody after police chase comes to crashing end in Perth’s south

Two people are in custody after a police pursuit came to a crashing end in Mandurah on Saturday.

Officers spotted a reported stolen Holden Commodore and attempted to pull it over on Pinjarra Road about 9:38am.

The white sedan allegedly failed to stop and police engaged in a pursuit for several kilometres.

Police chased the car as it headed northbound on Mandurah Road from the Mandjoogoordap intersection.

As the vehicle headed along Mandurah Road the Commodore crossed onto the wrong side of the dual carriageway and into oncoming traffic.

Officers aborted the chase over safety concerns but the car continued and crashed into the front of a BMW sedan before colliding with a Nissan Navara 4WD and stopping in nearby scrub in between Rouse and Gordon Roads.

The force of the crash ripped a tyre off the BMW and caused significant damage to the 4WD.

A man and woman allegedly fled from the wreck on foot but officers swooped and arrested them at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan Navara told Skeer Media the BMW was slightly in front of him as they headed northbound and that he saw the sedan cross into their lanes before it collided with them.

Other cars avoided the collision by metres,  one vehicle carrying children as passengers.

Mandurah Road southbound was closed for just over an hour with traffic diverted along Park Road as detectives and police documented the scene.

All three cars had to be towed away, the Commodore’s passenger side was severely impacted after the collision with the 4WD.

Police said those in the cars suffered minor physically injuries including whiplash.

Charges are expected to be laid.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
