Rockingham jewellers target of destructive robbery

Thieves have smashed their way into a Rockingham jewellery store on Monday.

It’s understood thieves broke through two sets of automatic sliding glass doors at the southern entrance of the Rockingham Shopping Centre on Council Avenue.

The offenders targeted Shiels Jewellers located several metres from the entrance.

Glass was strewn across the floor of the store after the offenders smashed through cabinets containing watches and other jewellery.

Centre Manager Aaron Bennett confirmed there was an incident at the premises on Monday.

“We are assisting WA Police in relation to an alleged incident at Rockingham Centre,” he said.

“The safety of our customers, retailers, team and the wider community is our priority.

“As the matter is the subject of a police investigation, we are unable to provide any further detail.”

The Rockingham City Shopping Centre refused to comment on what support was being offered to Shiels.

It’s not known if the offenders got away with any goods or if any other stores were targeted.

Shiels refused to comment on the matter.

Rockingham Police are investigating.
