Dams to close as extreme fire conditions hit Perth

Dam picnic areas across Perth will be closed over the weekend as a severe fire danger rating is put in place.

Temperatures are set to sore across the state with Mandurah predicted to be over 30 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. 

The Parks and Wildlife Service at the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DPAW) have today closed Avon Valley National Park and campsites. 

DPAW will close other Perth dam picnic areas on Saturday, some of those include:

  • North and South Dandalup dam 
  • Serpentine DamĀ 
  • Serpentine Pipehead DamĀ 
  • Wungong Dam 
  • Mundaring Weir 
  • Victoria Dam
  • Churchman Brook Dam
  • Canning Dam

The dams are set to reopen about midday on Monday. 

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises

  • People are urged to avoid the area, follow the advice of Parks and Wildlife Service staff and observe signage.
  • People already in the area should leave for a safer place.
