Police say a 12-year-old girl has failed to return home from a Mandurah school on Tuesday afternoon.

Shylah failed to return to her Meadow Springs home after leaving Frederick Irwin Anglican School at 3:30pm.

Mandurah Police say she was wearing her green school uniform which consist of a shirt, blazer and pleated skirt.

Shylah is described as about 160 centimetres tall, is a slim build, with brown wavy hair, which may be in a pony tail, and of an olive complexion.

A friend of the family posted to social media saying it was completely out of character for Shylah not to return home after school.
