Bunnings will be closing their Port Kennedy warehouse ahead of the lease expiring in May 2021.
The household hardware chain told Skeer Media the store would close its doors for the final time on March 21, allowing them to pack down and exit the lease.
Bunning’s regional operations manager Hayley Coulson said the business was continually assessing it’s operations based on customer needs, lease arrangements and locations.
“The Bunnings team in Port Kennedy has done a great job serving customers and the local community since 2008, and we thank the team for their commitment,” Miss Coulson said.
“As our lease expiry was nearing, we’ve made the decision to cease operations at Port Kennedy and will serve the local community from surrounding stores such as Baldivis, Rockingham and Mandurah.”
Bunnings told Skeer Media it would be offering their team members, working at the site, transfers to nearby stores.
The Wesfarmers owned chain said the decision wouldn’t change Bunnings’ ongoing commitment in WA or store opening plans, with six sites opened in the past three years, including new and replacement stores in Northam, Midland, and Albany.
BWP Trust owns the Port Kennedy property on Sunlight Drive, the company has an extensive property portfolio with 68 Bunnings Warehouse sites across Australia.
The site costs more than $1.7 million to lease per annum, including a retail area of 11,675 square metres, 225 car bays and two additional showrooms.
