More than 100,000 homes and businesses across Western Australia are without power tonight due to a generator issue.

The outage has impacted homes, pubs, nightclubs, and restaurants from Geraldton to Bunbury and out to Kalgoorlie.

The Western Power online outages map struggled with the amount of website traffic and, at one point, stopped working.

Western Power says restoration will be quick as there is no physical damage.

“We are currently working to restore power to approximately 100,000 customers across the network affected by a load shedding event this evening,” Western Power said.

“The event was triggered by a loss of generation, which instigated safety measures within the network to activate and match available load to the demand of our customers.

“We apologise for the outage and are working as quickly as possible to restore power with the relevant parties.

“Our website is currently experiencing high traffic volumes and may not load.”

As of 9:20pm, Western Poer advises more than 45,000 properties have been restored, and the power outage map has been fixed.
