Debris have been left floating in waters south west of Perth after an incident involving a tug boat overnight.
The Department of Transport (DoT) says the tug boat ‘Quenda’ was towing a barge from Henderson to Bunbury when some sections of the barge broke away during the journey.
The 21 by eight metre vessel reached its destination in Bunbury and is currently located in waters off the coast of Mandurah.
The DoT is working with the barge owner, Southern Ports Authority, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and WA Police Marine Search and Sea Rescue to recover the missing sections of the barge.
A navigational warning has been issued and recreational vessel skippers are cautioned to avoid the area between Mandurah and Bunbury until the recovery process is complete.
The department has encouraged members of the public to notify the Marine Pollution hotline if they locate any parts of the barge or see any evidence of water pollution on (08) 9480 9924 (24 hours) or email firstname.lastname@example.org
