A pothole in Warnbro has caused havoc for motorists as it caused damage to several cars on a busy road overnight.

The hole opened up in the southbound right lane of Warnbro Sound Avenue in between the intersections of Okehampton Road and Axminster Street.

The area could be seen littered with broken and buckled rims from cars which had driven over the large hole.

Drivers took to Facebook community pages to express their concerns and to warn others of the potential danger.

One Facebook user said they heard loud noises and saw more than 30 cars with damaged tyres.

“When I went to see what the loud noises were, there was about 50 cars with blown tyres,” they said.

One women said “unfortunately it only looked like a small puddle”.

“When you have someone driving beside you in the left lane, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t swerve into them just to avoid a puddle.”

Another user labelled the incident as a “nightmare”.

City of Rockingham’s Comet Bay Ward councillor Mark Jones noticed peoples frustrations and commented on one Facebook post telling drivers that were affected to contact the local government.

“If you received any vehicle damage please report it to the City on 9528 0333 or customer@rockingham.wa.gov.au,” councillor Mark Jones posted.

City of Rockingham mayor Barry Sammels said significant rainfall opened the pothole and work was being done to fix the issue.

“Significant rainfall on Thursday July 4, created a pothole in Warnbro in the southbound lane of Warnbro Sound Avenue, which was later reported to the City of Rockingham,” he said.

“Traffic was reduced to one lane while the City carried out temporary works to fix the pothole and make it safe for motorists.

“This work was completed by 10am [on] Friday July 5.

“More permanent works to fix the pothole are set to be carried out by early next week.”

The City of Rockingham didn’t respond when asked what advise they had for affected drivers.
