Woman killed in Coolup crash on major highway

An 18-year-old has died after a serious crash in Coolup on Thursday.

It’s understood the white Ford Ranger crashed into a tree on South Western Highway in Coolup near the Placid Ark Roadhouse.

About 4pm, St John Ambulance and firefighters rushed to the scene.

Witnesses told Skeer Media the car drifted onto the wrong side of the road before it went onto the gravel verge and collided with the tree.

The ute was so badly damaged firefighters were forced to cut the roof of the car off.

What was left of the mangled wreck had to be transported using two tow trucks and a car trailer.

South Western Highway was closed in both directions between Coolup Road East and Old Bunbury Road for more than five hours as Major Crash investigators probed the scene.

South Western Highway has since reopened.

Major Crash Investigators are calling for witnesses, dashcam footage or anyone who may have seen the car before it crashed to contact them.
