Elderly man airlifted after being hit by car in South Yunderup

An elderly man was airlifted after he was hit by a car in South Yunderup on Wednesday.

About 6:55am, a man, in his 70s, was allegedly hit by a P-plate driver on Murray River Drive near Tatham Road.

The man sustained serious leg injuries and could was heard yelling in pain.

St John Ambulance officers treated the man at the scene before he was flown to hospital by the RAC Rescue helicopter.

Damage to the Ford Falcon ute was visible from the roadside.

Murray River Drive was closed for more than an hour but has since reopened
